A while ago, I had rearranged my living room a bit, which ended up placing my pretty little Sun Conure’s cage in more of a corner than she’s used to.
It was a little darker, more in front of a window I didn’t like opening, but still seemed fine for while I was at work.
After about a week, however, she seemed to be more vocal and clingy and just wanted to go either outside all the time (which is unusual), or go to bed (night-night was what she kept telling me!) as soon as she could when I got home from work.
It took me a while to put two and two together, but I realized I just moved her cage! That was the difference!
So then I opened her window
Resulting in her becoming fluffy and dancing and making happy little quacking noises!
All she needed was a bit of sun! Sun for Sun Conures, imagine that!
So, a small lesson here – well two lessons!
The Importance of Sunshine for Your Pet Bird
The first lesson is that our precious little pet birdies (and the large ones too!) need sunlight and fresh air to be happy just like people do! You can also tell if your pet bird isn’t getting enough sunlight if their feathers start looking dull and straggly. The need to vitamins from sunlight too!
And secondly – try to always be in tune with your pet bird. They can’t always tell us what’s wrong, and they may not always even know! But they try to give us signals and her wanting to go outside and being so clingy should have made me realize what was wrong sooner. The poor thing!
But she did get her point across – to the delight of both of us!
And so I have made sure to give her a bit of outside time every day ever since!
